Some Darden restaurants report fourth-quarter sales above pre-pandemic levels

Yahoo Finance Live's Brian Cheung breaks down the chart of the day.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Time now for our chart of the day. Do you like unlimited breadsticks? I know I do. We're highlighting Darden Restaurants. They reported earnings recently. It's home to Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse, and both brands apparently more poppin' now than they were in the pre-COVID times.

You're looking at comparisons from 2022 fourth quarter to fourth quarter, 2019. Segment sales up about 8% at the Olive Garden, which is the lion's share of the company's portfolio by store count. Apparently people just can't get enough of those unlimited breadsticks.

A lot of people online also buzzing about how perhaps the unlimited breadsticks could be a good play in a recession if you just go to the Olive Garden, load up on some breadsticks, grab a Coke or something like that and then leave. I don't know. That's one strategy.
