$WDC should be at around $55 by the time they report earnings. If they beat and raise estimates it will go down into the $40's. Arguing that the recent plunge and grim outlook don't make any sense is a waste of time and money. Value stocks have been out of favor for a very long time and this is unlikely to change for many years. Meme stocks of companies on the brink of bankruptcy are much more valuable than the stocks of profitable companies.

I don't get it. Why is $STX getting a forward PE of 15 while $WDC is only getting 10? Is Seagate up for sale?

Uncertainties in the Market Rise while a Bounce in NAND Flash Prices Remains Unlikely in 3Q, Says TrendForce

    $WDC

"According to the latest investigations by DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, demand for smartphones and servers go below expected levels in 2019 as the US-China trade dispute heats up. Adding the CPU shortage, which continues to haunt notebook shipments, we may see the shipments of eMMC/UFSs, SSDs etc. failing to meet expectations for peak season 3Q, and cause contract prices to fall uncontrollably."

"OEMs focused on de-stocking for various products with a rather weak re-stocking momentum in 1H19. The average NAND flash contract price has already fallen by nearly 20% QoQ for two quarters straight, and disappointed market expectations of a rebound which was supposed to result from price elasticity. TrendForce asserts that despite international tensions and other unfavorable factors, demand will still see improvements in 3Q looking forward, and the decline in contract prices may see a shrink. But a rebound in contract prices will prove veritably difficult thanks to the incomplete clearing of suppliers' inventories and an uneventful dip in shipments expected for 2H."

"For eMMC/UFSs and SSDs, which form the market mainstream, smartphone and notebook PC vendors are expected to gain stocking momentum in 3Q, which, along with the large price adjustments in the first two quarters, will narrow the decline of contract prices from that of the previous two quarters to about 10% QoQ. For production processes, 64/72-layer 3D NAND processes still are mainstream for eMMC/UFSs, whose market mainly consists of mobile devices, whereas 92/96-layer 3D NAND processes find wider visibility in Client SSDs and help alleviate costs."

"As for wafer contract prices seen in marketing channels, the prices settled on are currently closing in on cash costs, causing reluctance on the side of suppliers to drive down prices any further. Thus we see priority being strategically given to eMMC/UFS and SSD products in negotiations, with any action towards wafer contract prices withheld unless inventory pressure becomes unbearable. Some suppliers even hope to bring 256Gb products back up to profitable prices. TrendForce suggests that wafer prices are unlikely to make a comeback due to the weakening market, but the declines for the months to come are expected to remain within 5% QoQ."

#WDC Surprised nobody posted this. Anybody surprised 'there's inventory' in China? Yes, there is, for a very good reason like I've been saying. lol, is that why aapl is supposedly to be ramping like crazy for their fall phone release? (.... into a possible chinese vacuum....)

With the terrible outlook given by the company for the current quarter, the fact that their debt is almost equal to the market cap, a general decline in the markets due to the high probability that the election won't be decided for several weeks and a global economic slowdown due to the latest round of lockdowns I wouldn't be surprised to see $WDC drop by another $10 or more. Hard to believe that the company paid $16 billion to take over Sandisk and now the combined companies are only worth $11 billion. This is hardly the fist time that a company has destroyed itself by grossly overpaying for a takeover target. They may need to issue new shares or sell off assets just to survive. I was fortunate to make some money trading this over the recent months but now I wouldn't touch it.

I've been reading the threads. Keep seeing the same comparisons. STX is cheap but $WDC is a better buy. WDC has lost half it's value in the course of 1 year and has a lot more room for recovery.

#WDC Recession? What recession? Not for semis

"Slowing smartphone sales during the coronavirus pandemic was a cause of concern for not only mobile manufacturers but also chipmakers. However, this is slowly changing now with economies finally opening up.

China — one of the biggest markets for chipmakers — is finally rebounding. Also, Micron Technology MU last month during it third-quarter 2020 earnings call reported revenue growth of 13% on a sequential basis driven by data center and mobile markets. Most of the company’s fab and assembly sites continued with full production during the quarter, with the Singapore and Taiwan facilities reaching record production.

This is likely to help Micron, one of the market leaders in DRAM and NAND flash memory chips, and even its rivals in the near term."

Bought 20,000 shares of $WDC this morning with some of the proceeds from selling $MU yesterday. I continue to think these two companies should merge so they offer a broader array of storage and memory products, and they can provide some much needed consolidation in the NAND business.

Look at analyst ratings they are up around $140 and on nasdaq.com $145 with the lowest current at $82. Now look at companies like MCD's or APPL... this stock got HAMMERED for the Toshiba worries and has not recovered since that has been put to bed.

The technicals are what are making this trade now as it should grind higher as shares get accumulated. Find me another stock trading at or below its lowest analyst rating that is as good of quality as this company as a buy or better please!

If you look MS has it set as $92 which should be closer to a bottom for this stock to trade. How many people said this is going to $70?? I said otherwise. Not that I am always right, a suprise could happen but from the fundamental views this company looks pretty solid. Technically this has to get back over $100 to trade closer to 10x 2018 EPS or even 2019 EPS. And those are eps models prior to tax breaks and repatriation of what they have overseas.

And it drops almost 2% today, can anyone explain why it dropped 2%?

I will tell yoiu what I believe. I believe it is because these things called super computers that are setup to trade stocks at technical levels. Since I turned off all the noise (CNBC especially) trading I have done 100% better. I still listen I just dont focus on what they say. Sometimes they help create buying opportunities however so you cant just not listen. As long as you did your homework and see a future for a company up or down to look at the big picture (Fundamentals) and then trade the technicals. You look at the bottom bollinger bands and if your bullish or not the stock usually hits them no matter what. It "tests" support like it did today.

Things that often get overlooked while a company may have a good EPS is the debt the company has. I believe that is what is holding $MU back and once they pay those billions down they owe (which I believe they have been doing) there wont be a leg for a bear to stand on.

This is just what I have learned over the past decade I am sharing here. Trust me I know I can be wrong or overlook something valuable and good times dont always last forever for a company (GE) but there are so many things like boosts to growth in GDP and tax breaks that will allow more money to flow around (which should help drive demand/growth going forward) I could be wrong here but lets see 1 year from now I almost want to say this will be $150 per share as long as no major event happens I cannot foresee. I think the EPS for the next few years going forward will be higher than anyone expected.

I am not only a buyer of $WDC stock when I can, I am a customer that buys a lot of the products they sell and have used them since I can remember.

ddr4 4GB dropped 1% yesterday, slow drip accelerates, would need to keep a very keen eye on this this week.
NANDs 240GB on newegg.ca now $80CDN, that's down from $110 -> $90 -> now $80 in the last month. Drops 10% this Q like it did last Q, NAND's down to a hope and a prayer for the price firming in Q3.

Can anyone show me another company like $WDC that has a market cap of $16.5B and revenue of $20B? Let alone a $5B buyback with $6B in the bank and about $3B in credit to access with cash flow $10+ per share per year? Trading $56 today as it gets tossed out like it has no value going forward. I can't believe they paid $19B and after all the good times the company is only worth $16.5B market capital... Cloud and Hard Drive business = $0 or even negative valuation...

Sold some calls on part of my $MU and $WDC long positions this morning. Just thought I'd take $30k profit on this spike. Hope it continues and those calls get exercised in a couple of weeks. If not, I will still have an extra $30k in cash that I didn't have yesterday. Nice to be back making a profit again...
